Director´s Welcome

Fall 2009 Concert

(on the theme of "T´was the Night before Christmas")
by Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy

T´was the night before the concert and all through the hall,
The Civic Chorale was on its last call.
The rehearsals were held with the greatest of care,
In hopes that a big audience would be with us there.

The choir was dressed in their very best threads,
While the sounds of Charpentier danced in their heads.
And Jo-Anne with her baton and Dr. Jim with his cap,
Had finished all score studies, and so that was that!

And Emmy, her solos, and Jon, his incipits,
Our four sections and soloists are totally with it.
Add strings, flutes, percussion and keyboard or two,
Let´s not forget Marti! We´re ready for you!

It´s been quite the season, we´re bigger and bigger,
So reports president Chris, our great, fearless leader!
Chorale paperwork and posters by Robert, Sharon and Todd,
And funded by Debra and the sale of pecans!

The lights on the crest of the staging below,
Give a luster of midnight to all in the know.
And what to your wondering ears will appear,
But a wonderful choir, full of musical cheer.

Our marvelous students, TCC singers supreme,
And four brand new voice classes, an incredible scene.
For several singers, tonight´s more than, "yes ma´am,"
For our concert tonight is their final exam!

And where would we be without the community spirit
Of members devoted, through the years, we can hear it!
Singing and leading, they´re just so very smart,
Creating together, a choir of the heart.

With a little, not so old conductor, so lively and quick,
Who´s so happy that this year she´s not even sick!
More rapid than thirty-second notes, her singers they sang,
As they warmed up and tuned up, she called them by name!

"Now sopranos, now altos, now tenors and basses!
Now everyone, please, please take your places!
To the top of your range, to the risers (don't fall!)
Now, sing everyone, sing, yes, sing one and all!"

Their eyes, how they twinkle! Their faces, how merry!
They even have a song about a nose like a cherry!
Their droll little mouths also draw up like a bow,
We think LOTS about vowels, especially "Oh, oh, oh!"

Mrs. V springs to the podium, and gives her choir the cue,
They´ll sing just like angels, especially for you.
And hear them exclaim as the choir ignites,

"Happy Christmas to all, thanks for joining us tonight!"
